Once you're in control of the city, you can set up a shield to protect the occupied territory.

Shields can be used once every 24 hours, and once generated, shields will last up to 8 hours. 

If you successfully occupy a town, you can attack a nearby city.

Adjacent cities that are connected to the occupied city can be attacked and you can travel to the city.
